Miron and his brother, Marek were found by military volunteers in the Donetsk region. The two cubs were abandoned and locked up in a dark basement without food or water. They were brought to Wild Animals Rescue Center, Ukraine where they received veterinary care and were nursed back to health. Their stomachs were full of old bones and garbage that they had eaten due to the lack of food. It took two weeks for their gastrointestinal tracts to start working again. At first they were thought to be 3 months old because of their size but after close examination their rescuers realized that they were about 6-7 months old.

Against all odds lion brothers Miron and Marek survived and were transferred to Poznan zoo were they spent about two years before they were relocated to Natuurhulpcentrum Opglabbeek in March 2025. We became aware about their arrival in Belgium and offered them lifelong care at ISINDILE.

Miron and Marek arrived at ISINDILE on Thursday, 30 October 2025 and were released into the management camp of their enclosure where they spent some time to help them adjust to all the new sounds, smells and sights. A week after their arrival we opened the gate to their main enclosure and Miron and Marek could explore the rest of their home. The two brothers have settled down well and are enjoying life at ISINDILE.
