White Bengal tiger – male
Asmir and Sahara were rescued in collaboration with NSPCA and Boksburg SPCA from a residential property in Gauteng where they spent about three years as pets in a small backyard enclosure.
Asmir arrived at ISINDILE as an extremely overweight and very angry tiger. He spent his early days sleeping in the night shelter and would growl at anyone attempting to come closer. He would only venture out in the late afternoon to enjoy a swim in the pond and to get his supper. It was quite an experience to feed such a big, unfriendly tiger.
A year later, not only has Asmir lost a lot of weight, but he has changed into a very gentle tiger. He is still a big boy, with an equally impressive aura, but with the softest “chuff.” He loves lying quietly in the thick bush and will only come out to greet if he feels like it.
