Sahara was rescued with Asmir from a residential property in Gauteng in collaboration with NSPCA and Boksburg SPCA. She shares an enclosure with Asmir.
Just like Asmir, Sahara was extremely overweight when she arrived at ISINDILE. Unlike him, she settled down quickly and, within a few days, was happily exploring her new home, swimming in her pond, and chuffing at us. She realized Asmir was going to need more time than her to adjust and, amazingly, would take his food to him where he was hiding in the night shelter. She would put it down in front of him and then drag it backwards towards the grassy patch as if showing him it was safe to come outside to enjoy his meal. She “rewarded” herself for all her trouble by taking a few bites out of his meat before eventually returning to her own supper.
Sahara is the most active and friendly big cat at ISINDILE. She always comes out to greet and is very vocal, chuffing and humming while walking with us along their fence line.
