In October 2022, Wild Animal Rescue Center evacuated Sem from the Feldman Ecopark in Ukraine. After a series of bombings near the rescue facility, Sem and three other lions—Liena, Lova, and Pretzel—were taken to AAP Primadomus in Spain. Sem arrived there as a shy and insecure lion, and it took his caretakers a while to win his trust. Once he had settled into his new surroundings, his caretakers noticed that he was constantly calling. Liena showed a keen interest in Sem, and they decided to introduce the two lions. It turned out to be an easy and quick introduction.

At the beginning of 2024, we made contact with Stichting AAP and offered Sem and Liena a permanent home at ISINDILE. Sem is a gentle, calm lion with a very impressive mane. He enjoys finding a shady spot to lie while surveying the rest of the sanctuary. He is also the one who starts roaring early in the morning and late in the afternoon, and you can hear his deep roar echoing off the mountains surrounding the sanctuary.
