Tawny lion – male
Simba and his sister, Nala, were rescued as 4-month-old “strays” from a residential property outside Durban by NSPCA and Kloof SPCA and relocated to ISINDILE. The two cubs settled very quickly and started playing and exploring their new home.
From the start, Simba was very protective of his sister and reacted immediately to assist or defend her when she called. To our surprise, he started developing a dark mane at a very young age. We couldn’t believe our eyes when, almost overnight, he grew a little mohawk on his head and black hair on his chest. Simba became territorial early and began marking bushes and scraping the ground, especially when confronted by Atlarela and Mtazamaji, who are in the enclosure next to him and Nala. He has also become quite a skilful tree climber, which brings us endless amusement.
